This painting is a tribute to the character invented by Mexican print maker Jose Guadalupe Posada known as La Catrina. This text written out in the papel picado style dress translates as “I am the famous skeleton La Catrina.” The Catrina image is easily the most famous image associated with the mexican celebration of Dia de los Muertos and Jose Guadalupe Posada is the king of skeletons in Mexico and a great pride to his hometown of Aguas Calientes.
